A 7-year-old Virginia boy died within a day of being diagnosed with the flu and strep throat, according to his family.
Kevin Baynes Jr., who lived in Hurt, was sent home sick from school Friday when he began vomiting and falling asleep in class, news station WDBJ reported.
When his family brought him to the emergency room the next morning, he tested positive for the flu and strep throat.
The 7-year-old left later that day with prescription medications — only to be rushed back Sunday morning after his sister found him cold and unconscious, according to news station WSET.
He was pronounced dead Sunday at the hospital.
“Watch your children closely,” his mom, Samantha Baynes, told news station WDBJ. “Don’t hesitate to go to the emergency room. No matter what time it is day or night, just take them.”
An autopsy was ordered to determine his cause of death.
A GoFundMe page was created to raise money for his funeral expenses.
